2020 has been quite disruptive for television with many shows having to stop production two-thirds of the way through filming as people were forced to go into quarantine. The good news is that production on many of our favourite shows is starting again, ready to come back onto our screens in 2021.
The line-up of anime shows for 2021 has been released. Although the dates on which they will be aired are subject to change because of any Covid-19-related emergencies, here is what we have to look forward to!
Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town
Starting off the year, Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town is scheduled to be released on 4 January. This show follows the story of Lloyd, who is a newbie adventurer who dreams of finding his strength in the capital city.
Despite his neighbours looking at him as weak, and not being able to make the journey, Lloyd sets off from his hometown toward the capital city and this is the start of his adventures.
High-Rise Invasion
Set to release in February, High-Rise Invasion is the anime adaptation of the death-game manga of the same name.
This series follows the story of Yuri Honjo, who is a high-school student. She is trapped in a strange world of high-rise buildings that are connected with suspension bridges. Masked murderers roam this world and kill everything in sight. It is Yuri’s mission to make it out alive.
Shaman King
April sees the release of Shaman King. This series follows the main character called Yoh Asakura as he attempts to hone and perfect his skills at shaman and become the ultimate Shaman King. To do this, Yoh must win Crash games and the Shaman Rights.
Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World Season 2 Part 2
Some people say that this show is starting in January 2021 while others say that it is starting in July 2021. All that we know is that it is starting in 2021 and we’re super excited to see this next instalment!
This series is an adaptation of the light novel series that was written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichirou Otsuka.
Tokyo Revengers
The main character in Tokyo Revengers is a boy named Takemichi Hanagaki. He finds himself in a rough spot who learns that his ex-girlfriend – Hinata Tachibana – was murdered by the Tokyo Manji gang.
Takemichi is absolutely devastated about Hinata’s death. However, fate smiles upon him when he suddenly finds himself 12 years in the past and back together with Hinata. Determined to save her, Takemichi has to infiltrate the Tokyo Manji gang and change the future.
A live-action film of this series was set to premiere in 2021; however, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic – production had to be halted, so the release date is, as yet, unknown. Tsutomu Hanabusa is directing the film and the cast includes, among others, Takumi Kitamura and Kayato Isomura.
